On the morning of 20 Jan 2021, multiple individuals parked a vehicle in front of one of our neighbor's house, broke into his vehicle and ultimately hit him with their car as they sped away when he confronted them. Thankfully, our neighbor is okay and our LPRC cameras led to an address for police to investigate.

On the morning of 23 Dec 2020, two thugs parked a vehicle in our neighborhood and proceeded to walk around, checking automobiles for valuables. They entered at least one vehicle that we know of and absconded with thousands of dollars of personal and professional equipment.

Less than 24 hours later, on the same day in fact, another vehicle entered our neighborhood, apparentltly looking for opportunities to take that which they have not earned. This same vehicle was captured entering both sections of the neighborhood by our security cameras and identified as a non-resident.

The instances of non-resident vehicles entering our neighborhood is high. Not all have ill intent. Still, we cannot sit idly by while criminals prepare to damage or take our property. Keep a wary eye, communicate what you see. If you see something suspicious...

1. If you are observing, or suspect you are observing, an active crime, call 911 immediately. If it is after the fact (no suspects present, for instance), call the Lexington Police Department @ (859) 258-3600 for non-emergencies (make that a contact on your phone for quick reference and always use 911 if you have an emergency or are not sure that the situation is not one!)

2. Attempt to covertly obtain vehicle information as you observe them. Do not put yourself at undue risk or attempt to apprehend a suspect, however.

3. When the police arrive, provide them with all the information that you have. Tell them to contact the Security Committee for any possible vehicular evidence from the License Plate Reading Cameras. Ask the police for a follow up so we know what is being done.

4. Report the incident on the WhatsApp security chat and to security@saddleclubsc.org so we can track, correlate, communicate and respond accordingly.

Saddle Club is an oasis in this part of Lexington. There should be every expectation that these instances will continue if we do not take an active role in stopping them. The security cameras are showing their value but they are only a part of the solution. Help us acheive our Objectives as stated on the Purpose page of this website by staying in touch with what is happening in Saddle Club and supporting the Security Program through participation in the Security Chat, joining the Neighborhood Watch, sharing observations and ideas or bringing your special talents to the team (the S&S Committee is currently a one man show!)
